“Residential upholstery is where I have had the opportunity to really have fun working with customers in transforming a favorite piece of furniture into a new, beloved work of art. Many customers enjoy the process of choosing new fabrics and seeing their old furniture get completely transformed.” — Kelly Mielke

Residential Upholstery

I have an extensive collection of quality fabrics from Irvin Alan, Burch Fabics, Greenhouse, Hoch & Selby, Robert Allen, Schumacher and others. I can help you select a suitable fabric for your needs from the many choices of leather, chenille, tapestries, designer fabrics, velvet, ultra leather, suede, vinyl, and more.

If you start thinking about it, the possibilities for reupholstering just keep growing! Any upholstered furniture in your home can look like new: chairs, sofas, window and nook seating, custom furniture, stools, ottomans, kitchen furniture, etc. It is a wonderful thing to see something new and beautiful come of furniture that might've been neglected or discarded.

“The leather covered rocking chair that Kelly reclaimed for me originally belonged to Lyle Dottie one of the early settlers here in Fairhaven. I found the chair in the loft of the barn 25 years ago when I purchased Lyle’s property from his estate. The chair had probably been in that loft for at least 25 years before I discovered it and it was old when it was put there. The chair was in an unfortunate condition, but I could see that it was a keeper. When Kelly came to pick it up, it only had one rocker attached and that one was in bad shape. The other rocker had been broken off in a manner that made it fairly useless in terms of repair. Kelly had to make two new rockers that were the same type of wood and exact dimensions of the original rockers—a most daunting task because rockers have to be so precise. The rockers that Kelly made are perfect.

The chair had originally been covered with leather on the seat and back but had oil cloth on the sides below the rolled arms. I wanted it to be recovered completely in leather but true to the original design. The leather that Kelly found was beautiful, of excellent quality, and very near the color of the original upholstery. The finished chair is a piece of art! It’s rolled arms are elegantly tucked and finished, amazingly enough, with the original brass buttons that Kelly salvaged and centered on the front of each arm. This wonderful and comfortable chair has come home again, back to Lyle’s living room where I am now its keeper. It’s a most perfect restoration.”
